Frequency-Specific Microcurrent (FSM)

I’m pleased to provide some information about a new therapy I have added to my practice. I was told by other practitioners that it was a game-changer for their work with clients. I am seeing some profound results so far.

What is Frequency-Specific Microcurrent (FSM)?

FSM is a system of treatment using micro-amperage current and the resonance effect of frequencies on tissues to reduce symptoms and improve health.

FSM is especially good at reducing inflammation, treating nerve, joint and muscle pain, dissolving or softening scar tissue and increasing the speed at which tissues heal.

The roots of FSM date back to the early 1900s. Dr. Carolyn McMakin came across FSM in the 1990s and was so impressed with the results she witnessed that she started teaching it to others. There are now 1000s of FSM practitioners around the world seeing equally impressive results.

How does FSM work?

The human body is naturally an electrical conductor. Each tissue in the body has an individualized frequency with which it resonates. When tissues are knocked out of balance, or out of tune, we can feel unwell in various ways. Using the correct frequencies can help these tissues come back into their natural tune, thereby reducing symptoms and improving health.

FSM works similarly to how a key fob works on a car door lock: the frequency changes the way the cell functions by changing cell signaling in that particular tissue. Like a key fob, frequencies can make change happen immediately, while drugs and supplements need time and quantity to achieve the desired result.

FSM is applied to encourage specific actions in that specific tissue. It can be used to decrease inflammation, dissolve scar tissue, heal tissues that are torn or broken, remove calcification, increase function, etc.

Studies have shown FSM can increase the ATP (energy) production of cells by 500%, increase protein synthesis by 70% and dramatically reduce inflammatory molecules in just minutes. It also increases feel-good endorphins, reduces fracture repair time by 50%, softens tight tissues, improves cellular function…These facts help us understand why FSM is so effective at reducing pain and speeding healing.

What happens in an FSM Treatment?

The treatments typically involve lying on a massage table, or sitting in a recliner chair, with warm wet towels applied to various places on the body. The FSM contacts are applied to these towels so the microcurrent can run through the part of the body we want to address.

Microcurrent is the same level of current the body produces, so people don’t usually feel the current. Some people experience a sense of relaxation, pain relief and softening of tissues almost immediately, while others may notice improvements the next day.

The effects can be immediate and can last for various amounts of time, with the ideal being a permanent change after a number of treatments, depending on each individual case. The treatments can last 60-90 minutes according to the protocol used. I often suggest starting with 3 treatments, done once or twice per week, to see how it works for you.

Your clothes are likely to become damp from the towels, so bringing a tank top and/or shorts to change into is ideal, depending on where the towels will be placed on you. It is also important that you are hydrated so the current can move through you, so I ask everyone to drink a cup of water per hour in the 2-3 hours before we meet.  (Coffee or black/green tea don’t count.)

If we have not met in while, or have not yet talked about the reason you want to try FSM, please book a 30 minute consult so I can collect the information I will need to prepare the protocols for our FSM appointment.

Are there any situations in which FSM should not be used?

FSM should not be used in those who are pregnant or have pace-makers or implanted pumps. I am trained to avoid using particular frequencies in certain circumstances. For example, we don’t want to break down scar tissue in the first 6 weeks of an injury, but we can still use the frequencies to speed healing.

What are the Side Effects of FSM?

The side effects of FSM treatments are rare, mild and short-lived. When they do happen, it can indicate a problem going on that we didn’t know about, which is helpful. The most common side effect is fatigue for a day, and rarely a headache.

The magic of FSM is that it can cause dramatic changes, immediately; it’s non-invasive with very low chance of side effects; and it holds the possibility of healing otherwise unreachable tissues/conditions.
